Crossing the bridge…

Mieke de Saedeleer / Account Manager (B)

After 5 inspiring years in sales, trade marketing and marketing at FMCG, I was ready for a new challenge last year. I knew what I wanted to retain from my previous jobs and what I was missing. But which company could offer me a job with all these different elements? The recruiter I hired listened carefully. I was keen to combine the focus on results you find at sales with the creativity of marketing and the organisational aspects of trade marketing. All these elements and many more brought us to GfK.

I’ve now been working for GfK for almost four months and my expectations have been more than fulfilled. Every day I endeavour to guide major clients like Coca Cola and Kellogg’s in their search for answers to questions about their consumers and products. As part of a team of market analysts, I analyse and evaluate the quantitative results with the aim of formulating recommendations for my clients. The variety of clients and issues makes the job exciting and multi-facetted. The day-to-day contact with the products and results of your research creates enormous engagement.

I imagine the alliance between GfK and its major GMCG players to be like Brooklyn Bridge. Decisions are made in Manhattan just as at the major FMCG players. But without the bridge to carry the flow of knowledge and information from Brooklyn or GfK they would become isolated. They both need each other and make each other stronger, or as the translation of the Dutch plaque on Brooklyn Bridge says: “Unity makes strength”.
